Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Clinical Ward manager for our Neonatal Unit.

Stockport Neonatal Unit is a 17 bedded unit LNU with an additional 4 beds for Transitional Care.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high-quality care delivery of all patients in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Standards.

The Ward Manager has a fundamental role in ensuring the caring environment is conducive to wellbeing and the effective delivery of budgetary, workforce and resource management.

Within this role, you will also be expected to work clinically to support the needs of the Neonatal service, working together with the Matron,





Clinical lead and the North West Neonatal Network.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Clinical Ward Manager is intrinsic to the success of the patient care pathway in influencing and working with the multidisciplinary and management teams and leading the highly skilled nursing team to provide high quality care.

You will need to be flexible, enthusiastic and passionate about the delivery of innovative safe patient focused care. To carry out this challenging role you must have proven current management and leadership experience at band 6 or above within the acute hospital setting.

If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £ This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.

Job description

Job responsibilities

- In conjunction with the Divisional Nursing Director, Lead Nurse and Matron, provide effective leadership,





monitoring of professional and care standards, and effective use of resources at ward / department level.
- To be a visible and accessible presence in the clinical area for patients, relatives and staff.
- To be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high-quality patient care.
- Lead by example and act as a positive role model to staff taking responsibility for own professional development.
- Provide leadership that promotes patient focused care.
- Actively contribute to and support agreed developments within the Division with focus for supporting clinical effectiveness and innovative practice.
- To manage roster allocation for present and future shifts in order to provide safe staffing levels in line with the agreed workforce model.






- To lead the multidisciplinary team on a daily basis using resources effectively and efficiently.
- To confidently escalate in a timely manner concerns about patient safety, quality and experience, offering solutions and evidence-based recommendations.
- To contribute to a culture that recognises and works in partnership with patients and their families, involving them in all decisions
- To ensure that national and local policy and guidance are delivered and maintained.
- Foster a culture which encourages staff to challenge and report substandard practice.
- Contribute to the development of and support delivery of the Trust Quality Improvement Plan / Strategy.
- Contribute to and participate in programmes of audit, including utilisation of results in practice






- To Lead and further develop the Transitional Care Model within Stockport Neonatal Unit
- To ensure an effective and sustainable relationship between Maternity and Neonates

- Current NMC Registration
- Qualified in Speciality (QIS)
