Job summary

JOB PURPOSE

To undertake a comprehensive range of occupational health activities associated to the :

Assessment of employee fitness to work

Protection of employee health at work

Promotion of employee health at work

Support of individuals with disabilities in both gaining and sustaining employment

You may at times work with limited supervision, you are accountable for your professional actions.

Development of a sound knowledge of the terms and conditions of organisations to which they may be allocated is essential as is the establishment of strong working relations with the authorised officers of the all partners and customers.







You will apply limited specialist knowledge and skills to undertake a clinical service and other varied responsibilities of the post.

You will maintain confidentiality at all times.

Dimensions of the post :

The post requires in-depth Communications, Health, Safety and Security, Equality and Diversity involvement in the support of employees gaining and sustaining employment.

The role requires commitment to Personal and People development (both personal and OH clients), and to service improvement and quality

The health and well-being of others and the collection of information and data in support of this, are further integral dimensions of the post

Main duties of the job

Venepuncture

Updating and maintenance of the occupational health recording system

Participate in the quality, monitoring and evaluation of the occupational health service

Proficient IT skills

Able to work independently and as part of the multi-disciplinary team

Able to maintain effective communication

Administration of vaccines in accordance with department processes,





partner / customer policies and national guidance.

To practice high standards of client care in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings as OH service or partner / customer needs require.

Work to meet the objectives of the service, partners and external customers.

Work within the scope of the NMC Professional Practice and Code of Conduct.

To attend study days, courses and conferences in accordance with the team training plan and as authorised.

Maintain client confidentiality and work within the framework of the Data Protection Act.

About us

The North West London Occupational Health Shared Service (NWL OH SS) is hosted by Central and North West London Foundation Trust (CNWL) and is made up of a team of experienced occupational health doctors and nurses,





supported by administrators.

The majority hold specialist qualifications and many have over 20 years' experience in occupational health.

The service has a strong commercial customer base providing first class professional Occupational Health Services to other NHS organisations as well as small / medium size enterprises (SME).

One of the main objectives for the service over the next five years is to consolidate the shared service across NWL and where appropriate continue to expand upon its commercial interests across London and adjoining counties.

This is reflected in the job plan.







The Occupational Health Service operates in line with the principles laid down in the NHS Employers "Your occupational health service" guidance October 2019 and the most recently updated SEQOHS standards April 2023

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide an ongoing immunisation programme for all personnel who are at risk of exposure to pathogens during the course of their work.

To assess employee in a sensitive and reassuring manner following needlestick / contamination incidents, providing support during potentially emotionally distressing circumstances.







To give ongoing support and information to clients throughout their follow up period.

To participate in screening programs for both partners and customers

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Registered General Nurse Experience- evidence of current NMC registration

Desirable

Relevant post registration experience in a variety of primary and secondary care clinical settings- A&E; or acute nursing experience an advantage

Skills and Experience

Essential

- Experience of health promotion activities
- Experience of working in a team
- Ensure that accurate and legible client records are kept in line with professional and legal requirements, paper and electronic
- Venepuncture
- IT skills
- Good communication skills
- Good organisational and management skills of self and others







Desirable

- Previous experience of working in Occupational Health within the NHS or within a similar setting
- Administration of immunisations and vaccinations

Knowledge

Essential

- Good knowledge of clinical governance
- Key issues and development in nursing
- Full understanding of Data Protection, Safeguarding and Confidentiality principles whilst accurately recording clinical data and signposting as required.

Desirable

Quality Improvement tools and audit

Abilities

Essential

- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to commute effectively across locations within shared service
- Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.






- Ability to work under pressure at times of increased activity within the Department.
- Ability to be able to deal with clients who are distressed on a regular basis.
- Ability to deal with clients who can on occasions be aggressive in their nature either verbally via telephone or face to face.
