Job summary
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trusts, General Surgical Department are expanding the Colorectal Directorate and are looking to appoint 3 Consultant Colorectal Surgeons with a subspecialty interest to complement the department (early rectal cancer;
advanced pelvic malignancy; colorectal cancer; inflammatory bowel disease; pelvic floor surgery).
Main duties of the job
You will join a general surgical department which includes Colorectal, Upper-GI, Breast and Vascular Services. The Colorectal Surgical Team has nine Consultants (eight whole-time equivalents).
There is a tradition of close working between the departments of gastroenterology and colorectal surgery.
The successful applicant will provide colorectal and general surgical services in theatre, outpatient and ward settings.
Minimally invasive surgery is well established within the colorectal team including transanal microsurgery (TEM) and robotic-assisted colorectal surgery.
There are separate specialty rotas for seven-day services, and the successful candidate will contribute to both the general surgery emergency rota (1 in 12) and the colorectal weekend and Bank Holiday rotas.
The Trust conducts out-patient and elective surgical activity at New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital. As part of the team, you will be expected to participate in delivering services on both sites.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a high level of competence across all aspects of acute and elective colorectal surgery.
The successful applicant should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT / CESR at the time of interview which is being held on 2nd February 2023.

- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in General Surgery
- Demonstrable training and expertise in sub-specialty area

- Experience and training in the surgical management of common, non-specialised conditions in children
