Job summary

Our multidisciplinary clinical team will give exciting talks and teaching on what we do and the advancements our nursing teams are part of.







Gain insight into our unique directorate and the underpinning practical skills through lectures and hands on participation in simulation displays.

We welcome applications from paediatric nurses looking to move into a dedicated speciality or adult nurses looking to transfer their skills into a paediatric environment.

Main duties of the job

- To work as a skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic family centered care to the children, young people and families.
- Ability to promote family centered care and establish good relationships with children, young people and their families
- To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.






- To be able to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior nursing staff following achievement of required competence.
- To be familiar with and adopt the principles of the NHS Chief Nursing Officers vision for Compassion in Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2012).

Person Specification

Academic / Professional qualification / Training

Essential

- Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) registered Nurse in child branch or relevant to specialty or Able to join the NMC child branch register for candidates educated outside of the UK
- Relevant nursing qualification






- Evidence of ongoing professional development linked to demonstrable competencies

Desirable

Practice Assessor & Preceptorship course or equivalent

Knowledge / Experience

Essential

- Demonstrable experience of having worked with acute / chronically sick children and young people or transferable specialist skills
- Understanding of professional and current issues in children's nursing
- Understanding of the importance of research and evidence-based practice
- Understanding of safeguarding issues according to Trust policies and procedures
- Understanding and evidence of fulfilling requirements for NMC revalidation
- Understanding of principles of clinical governance ( risk management, audit, quality)

Desirable

- Understanding of nursing practice and innovation outside of GOSH






- Knowledge of clinical incidents, complaints and reporting
- Previous experience in the relevant speciality

Skills / Abilities

Essential

- Ability to plan and prioritise care for patients
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to confidently use and navigate IT systems to provide care and complete duties
- Advanced time management skills
- Able to prioritise own work and delegate tasks as appropriate
- Able to work well both in a team and on own initiative
- Ability to teach and supervise other staff members






- Able to escalate concerns and seek assistance when appropriate
- Committed to family centred care
- Demonstrates compassion in practice
