Job summary
Following the Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) staff restructure, an important role has become available within the Pharmacy Directorate Team, which is part of the Medical Directorate.
Supporting the Heads of Pharmacy for Place, you will be providing senior level pharmacist capacity within the new Pharmacy Team into our next chapter as an ICB, working across the system to deliver the functions of the Pharmacy Directorate Team.
We are seeking an experienced and talented Pharmacist to support the work of the Pharmacy Directorate and Medical Directorate in delivering high quality, safe and effective pharmaceutical care within Joined Up Care Derbyshire.
Candidates must hold professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a pharmacist and have the relevant post qualification experience in primary or secondary care.
Main duties of the job
Support Care Delivery & Health Equality :
- Support the Pharmacy and Medical Directorates in delivering high-quality, safe, and effective care across Joined Up Care Derbyshire.
- Assist in driving transformation, commissioning, and implementing pharmacy and medicines initiatives across various levels (ICB, Place Alliance, PCN, practice, community pharmacies).
- Focus on Population Health Management, prevention, and reducing Health Inequalities.
- Promote evidence-based and cost-effective use of medicines in various settings to enhance patient care.
Clinical and Technical Expertise :
- Provide expert advice on pharmacy, medicines legislation, and best practice to clinicians and ICB members.
- Develop and update clinical guidelines, policies, and formularies, ensuring alignment with national and local guidance.
Education and Mentorship :
- Support, train, and mentor pharmacy staff, developing their roles and leadership skills.
- Educate healthcare staff, patients, and carers on therapeutics, medicines, and pharmacy issues.
- Oversee team members, manage projects, and ensure delivery within budget and timelines.
Financial and Resource Management :
Monitor and report on prescribing performance, ensuring cost-effectiveness and minimisation of waste.
This role requires a blend of clinical expertise, leadership, and project management to enhance pharmacy services and optimise medicines use across the healthcare system.

Pharmacy and Medicines Initiatives :
- Lead and manage projects focused on pharmacy and medicines, ensuring safety, efficiency, and alignment with clinical guidelines.
- Support the implementation and management of pharmacy services and initiatives across Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), Primary Care Networks (PCNs), GP practices, and community pharmacies.
Clinical Expertise and Guidance :

Education and Mentorship :
- Support, train, and mentor pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and support staff.

and carers on medication management and pharmacy issues.
Project and Financial Management :
- Oversee the delivery of pharmacy-related projects, managing teams, allocating tasks, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Manage budgets related to pharmacy services, ensuring adherence to financial policies and efficient use of resources.
- Monitor prescribing performance, aiming to improve cost-effectiveness and reduce waste.

- Ensure compliance with medicines legislation and best practice standards.
- Lead risk management activities, ensuring safe prescribing practices and minimising medication-related risks.

Person Specification
Knowledge Training and Experience
Essential
- Registration as a pharmacist with the GPhC
- Experience of managing change in Clinical practice
- Experience of influencing others, negotiating change, and motivating others within a team
Desirable
- Experience of working in Primary Care
- Knowledge of GP practice clinical systems and how the individual practices employ the use of them
