Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced paediatric physiotherapist to take on this Highly Specialist role. You will be working predominantly with children who have neurological and oncology conditions both as in and outpatients,with a particular focus on children with neuromuscular conditions, including Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy and Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

This role is a 9 month contract to support maternity leave (either FTC or secondment), hours / week working Wednesday - Friday.

The role will include working closely with other therapists in the Children's Hospital and the wider multi-disciplinary team.







You will be required to support band 5 and band 6 physiotherapists with teaching and training as well as managing your own complex caseload .

The post holder will work flexibly in conjunction with the Neuro Physiotherapy Clinical Specialist and Band 7 peers within the neurosciences team, in the daily line management and coordination of the service.

You will be expected to work collaboratively with the senior leadership team to ensure adherence to national guidelines, best therapy practice, and employ an evidence-based approach to implement service are multiple opportunities for training and development within this role.

NUH supports 7 day working; you will be required to work flexibly across seven days to support weekends, Bank Holidays and out of hours respiratory rosters where training will be given as necessary.

You will need excellent communication skills to facilitate close working relationships with members of the Neuro and Oncology MDT and Therapy teams

You will communicate with and support community teams providing ongoing care to neuroscience / oncology patients across the region.

Alongside strong clinical skills you will require skills in audit, service evaluation and development, as well as organisational and time management skills and the ability to motivate yourself and others.

You will assist in the management and support of all other grades of staff within the wider paediatric physiotherapy team to provide input to Neuroscience / oncology patients to allow you to develop your leadership, managerial and teaching skills.

You will support students on their clinical placements.

- Able to handle and move complex patients safely and in a way which promotes rehabilitation if applicable.
- Able to use and / or manoeuvre a range of medical devices including, for example, handling / assistive and anthropometric equipment if applicable.

Planning and organisation skills

Essential

- Able to plan the delivery of a service for a specialist area where there is variable capacity and fluctuating demand






- Able to organise and plan the activity of staff and self

Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential

- Analyse information from clinical assessments and make judgements about appropriate interventions for highly complex patients
- Able to make decisions about the treatment needs of highly complex patients
- Lead on the development of improvements in service delivery and clinical practice using evidence based practice to recommend changes

Communication and relationship skills

Essential

- Able to discuss treatment options and recommend best course of intervention to patients and carers using negotiating, persuasive, motivational and reassurance skills






- Communicate complex patient related information effectively to ensure collaborative working with MDT colleagues across health & social care sectors

Experience

Essential

- Wide ranging and extensive experience of working within specialist area
- Knowledge of current best practice within a clinical specialty

Training & Qualification

Essential

- Diploma or degree in relevant qualification
- Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registration
- Recognised post-graduate training relevant to specialty preferably including MSc or completed modules
