Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist Biborough SLT Education Team - Westminster, and Kensington & Chelsea

Are you looking to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people? Come and join the CLCH SLT education team!

We have the opportunity for an NQP or experienced Band 5 therapist to join the Biborough SLT education team. The post includes working with a varied caseload across schools in the inner London boroughs of Westminster, and Kensington & Chelsea.

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, excellent interpersonal and team-working skills, and an interest and experience of working with school-aged children and young people .

Main duties of the job

- To work with increasing independence to provide assessment, diagnosis, appropriate intervention and discharge for children within the role.
- To work closely with children, families and other professionals, providing advice to others regarding the clinical management to support children and young people as relevant to the post.
- To understand and meet professional and legal SEND responsibilities outlined in the Children and Families Act 2014 including contributing to statutory assessments of special educational needs and delivery of Speech and Language Therapy provision as specified in children's Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Work closely with children & young people, parents, carers and multi-disciplinary team members across Health Social Services, Education, Children's, agreeing decision making relative to clinical management.






- Maintain accountability for own professional actions and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice from senior colleagues as appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential







- Degree or equivalent and Licence to Practice - Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT

Experience

Essential

Working with children in clinics and / or school based settings

Desirable

- Experience Training others
- Working with multi-cultural client groups

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

- Excellent communication skills both verbal, non-verbal and written
- Working in partnership with other members of the MDT
- Working in collaboration with children and young people, parents / carers and families
- Ability to adapt communication skills to meet the needs of others
- To be able to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity and awareness of the needs of others
- 6 Excellent organisational and time management skills






- Flexibility and good problem solving skills
- Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment diagnosis and treatment of children with a broad range of speech, language and communication difficulties
- Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
- Manual dexterity sufficient to carry out swallowing assessment and use of high and low technical assessment equipment
- Valuing and advocating for all communication styles and preferences
- Understanding of child development including Speech and Language, Play and other milestones
- Knowledge of appropriate range of assessments and interventions for children with Speech,





Language and Communication needs and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits to individual children
- Knowledge of religious, cultural and linguistic issues impacting upon caseload management
- Awareness of national policies and procedures (relevant to school aged children) including education practice and policy
- Awareness of the principles of audit
- Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group) and awareness of role boundaries
- Knowledge of professional standards of record keeping

Desirable

- Knowledge of Clinical Governance
- Knowledge of principles and models of Adult-Child Interaction

Key Attributes

Essential

- To be occupational health cleared for the role specified.






- IT literate and able to use a range of specialist programmes
- Able to maintain prolonged concentration
- Travel around district and access different venues, with or without adaptations
