Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Inpatient Mental Health Service based at Penn Hospital. We are looking to appoint a Band 6 Occupational Therapist.

The successful applicant will need to be an enthusiastic and committed individual and will be part of a wider team, including Occupational Therapists and other members of a Multi-Disciplinary team within the Therapy Space.

The post holder will have responsibility for a caseload of clients including those with complex needs. Using evidence based / client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist interventions.

This will be in addition to participating in the planning,





development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy Services. Applicants must be able to demonstrate robust Occupational Therapy clinical skills and have experience of working within a mental health arena.

Supervision and support will be given to the successful candidate.

We are an energetic and hardworking team working with adults with mental health needs. Walsall Inpatient Therapy Hub is an innovation within Black Country Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust.

We aim to be a fully integrated Multi-Disciplinary Team comprising of Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Support Workers and other partners, both internal and external.

Main duties of the job

- To work effectively as a member of the inpatient and ward teams as an autonomous practitioner in providing a range of therapy interventions (individual and group) using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals,





in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members
- To manage a clinical caseload of adults with mental health needs requiring occupational assessment and treatment interventions with clients on the wards and in the therapy spaces, as well as within their home environment, if appropriate.
- To undertake occupational therapy assessments / treatment interventions based on the model of human occupation, with designated service users, utilising investigative and analytical skills to formulate individualised treatment plans.
- Recovery Focused Practice is core to the work that we do.

In addition to the information listed above, the ideal candidate will have :

- Excellent communication skills in regular contacts with service users, families and carers as well as other professionals.






- Experience of working closely with Multi-Disciplinary Teams, as well as wider inter-agency teams.
- Compassion, Empathy and a Caring approach with every interaction, in line with the Trusts behaviours.
- A detailed knowledge of the Model of Human Occupation as well as Occupational Formulation, and experience of using this in practice.
- A flexible approach to the post, both in relation to engaging service users, but also to support the service in meeting its needs.
- Enable and empower service users through clinical work, as well as fellow staff and students through facilitating supervisions.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

- Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration, Evidence of further education

Experience







Essential

- Post Preceptorship experience
- Extensive clinical experience including invidividual and group work
- Supervision giving and receiving

Knowledge

Essential

- Experienced use of the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO)
- Experience of occupational therapy assessments and interventions with adults with mental health needs

Desirable

- completion of placement educator training experience of student education
- Understanding of effects of current health and social policy and practice in adult mental health services and the implications for Occupational Therapy practice
