Job summary

Band 7 - Clinical Nurse Specialist working within the Substance Use Team.

To practice as a Clinical Nurse Specialist for substance use within Forensic Services.

To be a lead participant in the secure services substance use programme.

To provide consultation and liaison to clinical teams and ward staff using evidence based / client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.

To model the C-BIT (Cognitive Behavioural Integrated Therapy) approach and other evidence-based interventions approach through joint working with multi-disciplinary staff

To lead in establishing, running and regularly evaluating the group programmes and 1 : 1 intervention.







To lead the development of training packages for Secure Services staff and provide input into their delivery alongside other members of the multidisciplinary team.

To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of substance use interventions using advanced clinical skills and knowledge in evidence based interventions.

To provide clinical leadership for staff through management supervision and training.

To work closely with third sector organisations like Narcotics Anonymous to run joint interventions.

To provide clinical supervision and mentoring to Trainee Assistant Practitioners.

Main duties of the job

To consult and liaise with mental health and substance misuse services, and clinically co-work with Care Coordinators and MDT staff to provide substance use assessment and treatment.

To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment using appropriate outcome measures to ensure effectiveness of intervention.

To develop, co-ordinate and facilitate specialised group interventions for co-morbid clients and families.







To select, apply and advise on assessments and interventions for clients with complex combined problems.

Person Specification

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

Essential

Registered nurse : RMN / RGN

Desirable

Educated to degree level with equivalent relevant experience in specialist services.

EXPERIENCE

Essential







- Experience of working with individuals diagnosed with a SMI and personality disorder
- A good knowledge base of the complexities of working with co-existing mental illness and problematic substance use.

Desirable

- Experience of working in a prison / forensic setting / criminal justice
- Relevant experience managing a caseload in a multi-disciplinary team within a health care environment

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, APTITUDES

Essential

- Good knowledge of recovery-based models within drug / alcohol use
- Excellent knowledge of drug / alcohol treatment systems that make up an integrated recovery model.
