Strategy and Communications

Strategy and Communications sits at the centre of the organisation, bringing together several teams with organisation-wide remits and mutual collaboration opportunities.

The work of the directorate’s teams includes delivery of major events, designing and leading public affairs or marketing campaigns, providing data, evidence and analysis, leading cross-organisational programmes, to making sure we plan for and can respond to emerging events or emergencies in our city.

About the role

Are you ready to lead integrated campaigns for Londoners?

We’re looking for an experienced senior marketer to lead our team at City Hall,





ensuring all Londoners are aware of the work of the Mayor of London and London Assembly.

The Marketing & Campaigns team leads integrated campaigns and communications interventions that help make London greener, safer, fairer and more prosperous.

In this role, you’ll be leading a team of passionate communications experts to design and deliver campaigns that tackle priority issues for Londoners such as public safety, accessible housing, violence against women and girls, rough sleeping, equality, diversity and social integration, and economic prosperity.

What your day will look like

- Managing a team of six dedicated campaign leads and marketing managers
- Representing marketing across the Greater London Authority, and providing communications expertise to a variety of stakeholders
- Working closely with the rest of External Relations, including the Press, Digital Communications and Partnerships teams, to develop and deliver integrated campaigns
- Working with stakeholders across the Greater London Authority and our partners, including policy teams,





the Mayor’s Office, Transport for London, to ensure our efforts are built on robust insight, reflect the needs of Londoners, and coordinated with key partners
- Directing the relationship with external creative, research and media buying agencies, to ensure we get the most value and impact

Skills, knowledge and experience

- Significant experience of leading the planning and delivery of campaigns for complex organisation, including managing the implementation and the budget aligned with it.
- Strong track record of delivering social marketing initiatives and policy / issue-based campaigns, behaviour change campaigns, and building marketing propositions for complex initiatives.
- Extensive experience of working with external partners and agencies,





including the development of shared goals to drive further values and drive greater impact
- Significant in-depth knowledge and experience of working in a complex political, high-profile organisation at a senior level to manage or supervise the delivery of complex cross-organisational projects.
- Senior management experience and a strong track record of leading multi-disciplinary teams providing professional, strategic advice on marketing and communications campaigns.

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

In addition to a good salary package, you will be paid every four weeks, providing frequent salary payments. We also offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.

Job Description

Principal accountabilities

- Provide strategic and tactical direction across the Marketing function ensuring :
- Objectives are clearly defined, audiences identified, and key messages developed and validated.
- Innovative and effective channel and content strategies are developed, which meet the strategy and engage audiences.
- Work alongside the Head of Digital Communications, to deliver best practice integrated communications strategy and delivery across all campaigns.
- Work alongside the Head of Creative to deliver best practice creative strategy to City Hall. Help promote creative excellence across all campaigns, promoting the brands and guidelines, delivering recognition of the work of the Mayor and delivering successful campaign outcomes.
- Work alongside the Head of Strategic Communications to ensure that campaigns are aligned with Mayoral and corporate objectives, and are resourced, delivered, and evaluated in proportion to organisational priorities.
- Support the Assistant Director to ensure that the Marketing team delivers responsive, high quality level of service. Support the Assistant Director representing her or deputising for her as required.
- As a member of the External Relations senior management team, working collaboratively with colleagues drive a more strategic, integrated delivery across the unit.

Specifically, working alongside the Creative, Strategic Communications, Digi Comms, Press, Events, Sports & Partnerships and Internal Comms teams to deliver campaigns which resonate at all points of interaction and ensure synergy between the units.

- Ensure effective management and development of the Marketing Campaign team by formulating clear team and staff objectives and targets, appropriate staff development programmes and sound performance management practices.
