The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, experienced hospital pharmacist with good clinical skills and managerial skills with a working knowledge of the medicines optimisation agenda.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide, at highly specialist level,





clinical pharmacy services to paediatrics and maternity and will be responsible for ensuring that appropriate mechanisms are in place to promote high quality drug use, effective risk management, clinical governance and adherence to trust policies and guidelines concerning medicines use.

The post holder will have designated areas of responsibility, which will vary from time to time according to the needs of the service and projects that require to be delivered including :

To lead, deliver, develop and evaluate pharmacy dispensary services provision to the Trust. To provide professional leadership to the dispensary-based pharmacists.

It is expected that the management of dispensary services will account for around 20-30% of the post holder's time including daily presence in the dispensary.

It is expected that the post holder's contribution to the service will result in an improvement of dispensary KPIs.

Job description

Job responsibilities







Lead the pharmacy services to paediatrics and maternity.

Lead the dispensary pharmacy services.

Provide a high level of expert clinical pharmacy input as part of the multidisciplinary team within paediatric and obstetric medicine to improve and enhance the quality of patient care.

To provide pharmaceutical support and advice to paediatric and maternity inpatients and outpatients.

To act as the line manager for the paediatric and maternity specialist clinical pharmacists and the chief technician, dispensary.

To co-ordinate and deliver on clinical governance initiatives relating to medicines management and use within the area of paediatric and maternity medicine.







Manage and develop staff assigned to dispensary and monitor their performance using Trust policies and procedures and local guidelines for performance reviews and that staff motivation and direction are given through appraisal, general communication and specific feedback.

To undertake performance review for all staff managed by this post and report to the Chief Pharmacist.

Person Specification

ATTRIBUTES / SKILLS

Essential

- BPharm / MPharm or equivalent
- Registered with GPhC
- Diploma / MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience
- Management qualification or equivalent experience

- Significant years post-registration experience






- Relevant hospital pharmacy experience
- Managing dispensary
- Management experience
- Leading and Implementing change
- Performance management and audit experience
- Project management experience
- Ability to deal directly with public, senior clinicians & other health service & pharmaceutical industry staff
- Recent Clinical Pharmacy / Ward Pharmacy Experience
- Understanding of Formulary & Drug Usage Review and clinical trial issues
- Understanding of risk management issues within pharmacy and in healthcare service
- Ability to manage out of specification results, review them and develop action plans to resolve them
