Job summary

Join our fantastic team at Kingston Hospital as a Principal Pharmacist in the Adult Haemato-Oncology Unit and step into a supportive environment that fosters growth, development, and innovation.

Your role will involve leading the pharmacy Haem-Onc service in the delivery of specialised medicines, medicines optimisation, mentoring colleagues, and leading on innovation and service development.

You will also be involved in providing specialist support to the trust haematology service.

you will use your expertise to ensure patient safety, medicines optimisation, and treatment success.

You will serve as a trusted advisor, providing invaluable pharmaceutical insights related to haemato-oncology / haematology treatments to our medical and nursing staff.

You will be a leader in the pharmacy and haem-onc teams and act as a role model and expert in the haem-onc / haematology pharmacy field to ensure consistently high standards of our clinical pharmacy service.

You will play a crucial role in the development and training of our pharmacy staff, developing the non-medical prescribing service for the specialty, providing chemotherapy training, training pre-registration and junior pharmacists, and contributing to medical and nursing staff e-prescribing training.

You will also line manage the senior pharmacist in the service and supervise band 7 Pharmacists on rotation.

Job responsibilities







Provide an expert pharmacy service to patients in the haematology & haemato-oncology service.

Act as a role model and local / regional expert in the haematology / haemato-oncology pharmacy field and ensure consistently high standards of clinical pharmacy service at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in line with corporate objectives and the NHS Plan.

Support education and training in medicines optimisation for the multidisciplinary team in Haematology / Haemato-Oncology

Accept case referrals and provide expert opinion on medicines(s) issues where appropriate in haematology / haemato-oncology.

Support haematology services in providing effective clinical governance to manage risk, develop education and training pathways and embed clinical audit practices to ensure safe delivery of medicines service.







Undertake research into medicines use in haematology and lead on the development and embedding of research practices in the haemato-oncology pharmacy team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

- Masters Degree in Pharmacy followed by the completion of one year pre-registration training and experience
- Post graduate Diploma and / or MSc in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
- Qualified as an Independent Prescriber, or willing to work towards within 1 year
- SACT passport accreditation

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

- Extensive experience as a senior pharmacist working in cancer services






- Comprehensive post-registration training and experience in hospital pharmacy - this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of acute hospital pharmacy practice including dispensing and medicines information
- Experience in producing new drug evaluations for the Medicines Optimisation Committee
- Significant experience in delivering complex medicines optimisation services to cancer patients
- Contribution to data collection for clinical audit and experience in its use to improve practice
