Job summary

We are looking for a band 7 Patient Safety and Compliance Co-ordinator to join our team for a fixed term of 12 months. This post will sit within the Trust patient safety team within the Quality Governance department.

The team is part of the corporate team of the Trust with a main aim of coordinating functions that relate to quality governance and patient safety.

This is a new role within one of the largest acute care provider organisations in the NHS. The Patient Safety and Compliance co-ordinator role will support the Patient Safety Learning Response Lead to provide Trust-wide oversight of all types of patient safety learning responses as part of the Trust's annually agreed Patient Safety Incident Response Plan (PSIRP).

The successful candidate will be overseeing and monitoring the implementation of safety alerts and will work closely with the Compliance and Safety Lead to support the preparation and coordination of inspections and reviews carried out by the Care Quality Commission and other external agencies.

Main duties of the job

The key purpose of this role will include but not limited to :

o Collation and presentation of safety performance, analysis of themes and trends

o Find innovative ways of supporting the organisation to learn from incidents and other safety related intelligence

o Development and delivery of training relating to patient safety and compliance

o Liaise and coordinate CQC inspections or visits, development of CQC compliance tools, collation and quality assurance of the information provided

o Oversight and co-ordination of patient safety alerts

o Reviewing all safety related information to gain better understanding of safety of care within the Trust

We are looking for a motivated individual with recent experience of safety investigations, good knowledge of PSIRF and CQC regulatory compliance framework, and experience in the safety and quality governance environment with an emphasis on patient safety, compliance, assurance and clinical risk.

Although this position is a 12 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks.

This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 12 months.

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

Desirable

- Current professional clinical registration
- Relevant post graduate diploma or equivalent qualification

Experience

Essential

- Recent experience in the safety and quality governance environment with an emphasis on patient safety / clinical risk and compliance
- Evidence of training experience and presentation skills, using a range of media to support governance and compliance






- Use of Datix or other automated risk management databases.

Desirable

- Experience as a registered health care professional in a clinical setting
- Experience in a range of clinical environments
- Experience of delivery of educational and training
- Experience of managing small or large scale projects or developments
- Evidence of preparing and delivering organisational compliance with CQC regulatory / statutory governance standards.
- Experience of collating / evaluating evidence against statutory standards and of maintaining effective monitoring systems to assess compliance.

Knowledge

Essential

- Clinical governance knowledge and the knowledge of national patient safety strategy
- Knowledge of the serious incident framework and the Patient safety incident response framework (PSIRF






- Knowledge of risk management.

- Highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate complex issues to senior leaders, clinical staff, patients and members of the public
- Ability to interrogate systems to analyse data and review other internal and external sources of data
- Ability to produce analytical reports relating to patient safety
- Ability to influence, negotiate and deliver results through others (both within and particularly outside of own team)
- Ability to present complex issues clearly and concisely at all levels of the organisation, including to executive colleagues
- Able to effectively advise, coach and train colleagues in serious incident methodology and safety matters
