Job summary

The Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders (MCCAED) have been awarded dedicated funding to develop co-produced community engagement work to seek to redress barriers to accessing treatment by minoritised youth.

This role is to lead the project, 'Building Bridges', for an initial 18 months.

We particularly welcome applications from Black and Ethnic Minority candidates as they are currently under-represented within the team at this level.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with stakeholders across local communities,





expert parents and experts by experience to coproduce an approach to liaison that increases the accessibility of MCCAED to local young people and their families.

They will manage an assistant psychologist and support them to liaise with local schools to implement outreach work with young people, staff and parents.

The post holder will deliver this program with the assistant psychologist. They will work with design / animation agencies as appropriate to develop materials for outreach / engagement, dependent on outcomes of coproduction work.

The post holder will deliver the program to groups of young people in secondary schools in the SLaM boroughs

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or MSc PG Diploma or Doctorate in Counselling Psychology or equivalent nursing or family therapy qualification or Occupational Therapy or social work qualification. (A / I)
- Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist or equivalent professional registration with AFT, UKCP,





NMC. (A / I)

Desirable

Evidence of training in cross-cultural working, EDI, minority stress and / or coproduction.

Experience

Essential

- Experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and / or lived experience. (A / I)
- Experience of working with groups of young people in therapy, education or community settings (A / I)

Desirable

- Experience of facilitating focus groups / reflective groups (A / I)
- Experience of public speaking at a local level. (A / I)
- Experience of developing and carrying out research projects. (A / I)
- Experience of running projects to brief and budget. (A / I)






- Experience of assessment and treatment of clients with eating disorders. (A / I)

Understanding and Knowledge

Essential

- Knowledge and understanding of diversity issues and impact of children and families, service provision and access to care. (A / I)
- Knowledge of coproduction models and methods (A / I)
- Theoretical knowledge of a wide range of psychopathology and the evidence base for relevant treatment. (A / I)
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues, child and adult protection, and equalities. (A / I)
- Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care. (A / I

Desirable

- Knowledge and understanding of eating disorder presentations in children and adolescents (A / I).






- Knowledge of the potential physical risks associated with eating disorders (A / I)
- Knowledge of NICE guideline interventions for young people with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and other eating disorders. (A,I)
- Knowledge of research / quality improvement methodology and complex statistical analysis. (A / I)

- Interpersonal skills and organisational knowledge to work effectively with stakeholders, experts by experience, senior managers and practitioners across agencies, respect differences and use integrated ways of working that complement the skills of others.
- Ability to communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues overcoming barriers to communication including sensory,





and emotional difficulties, cultural differences and hostility to or rejection of information. (A / I)
- Ability to acquire, interpret, synthesise and apply complex information from a variety of sources to support program development. (A / I)
- Ability to work flexible hours and the ability to travel and work out of traditional office hours to facilitate work with project partners. (A / I)

- Proven skills in report writing for multi-agency purposes / feedback to funders (A / I)
- Skills in managing a small, specific budget with supervision from senior colleagues (A / I)
