Job summary

Lion Ward is looking to recruit a Senior Staff Nurse

1 Permanent Full time - Blood, Cells and Cancer Directorate

Lion ward is part of a large Haematology / Oncology department that cares for children from 0-12 years old. We are committed to working in partnership with the community teams and shared care centre in order to provide the highest quality care for children and their families.

The unit provides a dynamic environment with opportunities to be involved in research and the care of children undergoing treatments- such as high dose therapy, stem cell rescue and antibody treatments.







This unit is committed to professional development and offer extensive educational opportunities including study to degree and masters level.

Main duties of the job

The job will entail promoting a positive attitude towards continuing improvements in patient care through research and evidence based practice and acting as a mentor to students.

The wards promote staff development through challenges and daily support, with excellent opportunities to build upon your knowledge base practice and nursing skills.

- NMC Registered Nurse (Child) (or Registered Nurse / Midwife relevant to area of practice Mental Health / Neonatology / Theatre)

- Ability to plan and prioritise care for patients

- Administration of IV drugs

Experience / Knowledge

Essential

- Experience of having worked with acute / chronically sick children or specialised transferable skills
- Understanding of professional and current issues in children's nursing
- Understanding of the importance of research and evidence-based practice
- Basic knowledge of computer skills
- Understating or evidence of fulfilling requirements for Revalidation
- Understanding of safeguarding issues according to Trust policies and procedures






- Understanding of principles of clinical governance ( risk management, audit, quality)

Desirable

- Understanding of nursing practice and innovation outside of GOSH
- Experience of handling clinical incidents and complaints
- Understanding auditing and research Methodologies
