Job summary

The role is suitable for an accredited consultant in a clinical specialty dermatology and will be a great opportunity to enhance and bring added value to UCLH and UCL clinical, research and teaching activities.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at UCLH and comprises 5 NHS / clinical PAs and 5 UCL academic PAs.

The post holder will hold a substantive contract with UCLH and Honorary Contract with UCL as a professor or associate professor depending on seniority and experience.

The academic / NHS split for the post will run for 3 years in the first instance. The successful candidate will be a UCLH employee,





with a permanent contract of 5 NHS / clinical PAs and an additional 5 research PAs fixed term for 3 years.

The post is funded 50% by UCLH and 50% by UCLH Charity. Clinical and academic progress will be supported on an annual basis by the Head of the UCL Research Department of Rheumatology, Ageing and Inflammation and Divisional Clinical Director of Medical Specialties UCLH.

There will a regular and iterative dialogue on the progress of the work, the successful candidate and future funding. We anticipate the successful candidate will work with us to secure a financially, clinically and academically sustainable future for this work and the team the successful candidate will lead and help create.

Professional Qualifications

Essential

- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
- MBBS, or equivalent
- MRCP, or equivalent
- PhD / MD

PI experience of Phase 1 to 3 Clinical Trials

Clinical Experience

Essential

CCT in a relevant medical specialty dermatology, geriatrics, rheumatology etc.

Leading a clinical service

- Good IT skills
- Clinical Audit experience
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance framework of NHS

Research, Teaching Skill & Experience

Essential

- Good understanding and experience of good medical practice.
- Enthusiasm for teaching junior staff within the specialty.
- Demonstrable experience of teaching junior medical staff.
- Good experience of managing research resources including budgets.
- Track record of extensive publications, especially in the area of biogerontology, immunology, senescence,





ageing or dermatology in high quality peer-reviewed scientific journals and conferences

Desirable

- Evidence of Patient Public Involvement (PPI) activities
- Evidence of leading research ethics applications.
- Evidence of recruiting and managing individual scientists effectively
- Track record of external research grant funding as Principal Investigator
- Experience and track record in translational research
- Experience in clinical trials development and management
