Out Of Hours Medical Laboratory Assistant

We have an exciting opportunity for an Out Of Hours Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Pathology team based at The London Clinic in central London, W1G 6BW.

The London Clinic Pathology department is committed to providing the best service for our users. We are accredited by UKAS under the ISO15189 :





2012 standard and our stem cell service is accredited by JACIE and regulated by the HTA.

Our blood transfusion service is regulated by the MHRA.

Our in-house repertoire includes allergy, biochemistry, endocrinology, haematology, blood transfusion, histology, cytology, immunology, microbiology and stem cell services.

Job Profile

As an MLA you will work in work in sample reception as part of a team supporting and assisting biomedical scientists (BMS) in other areas of pathology when necessary.

Job Type : This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week.

Shifts : Monday Friday and weekend cover when required.

Predominately night shifts between the hours of 7.00pm and 8.00am across a three week rota with on in 3 weekends.

Location : The London Clinic’s P athology Department, 116 Harley Street London W1G 7JL.

Salary : The salary for this role is competitive and based on skills and experience.

Closing Date : 21st January 2024

Key Duties

- To identify and sort all samples received in sample reception from areas such as the wards, outpatients, GP’s and external sources.
- To label and centrifuge samples in preparation for testing.
- To identify improperly labelled specimens and to deal with them according to the department’s policy. To investigate mislabelled or mislaid samples and inform requester as necessary.
- To charge patient accounts using Meditech.






- To input data regarding patient test requirements accurately into the laboratory computer system according to procedures.

To check discrepancies and alert senior staff in a timely manner.

Skills & Experience

- Pathology or scientific background required
- Previous experience in a medical and preferably pathology departments
- Computer literate with excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work well in a team
