Job summary

We are looking for Clinical Psychologists or final year Trainee Clinical Psychologists with an interest in clinical health psychology and the impact of living with endocrine, diabetes and DSD conditions.

You may have experience of working with physical health problems with either children / families or adults, or experience of working in child and adolescent or adult mental health services with a keen interest and desire to apply that knowledge to work in an acute postholder will join the Children's Endocrinology, Diabetes and DSD Service at the Nottingham Children's Hospital (QMC).

As a psychologist working in the service,





you will provide a specialist clinical psychology service for children / young people to help them better manage psychological distress and obtain better treatment outcomes.

We would welcome applications from newly qualified psychologists, or 3rd Year Trainees due to qualify in September 2024.

Please note that this vacancy is part-time. The successful applicant will be working hours per week

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will involve working closely with the multidisciplinary Children's Endocrinology, Diabetes and DSD Teams.

You will work with children and young people through consultation to staff, direct work and by attending multidisciplinary clinics.

Your base will predominantly be at the Children's Hospital QMC campus. You will be part of a welcoming and growing Clinical Psychology Department which incorporates specialisms in Paediatric Psychology, Adult Medical Psychology and Child and Adult Neuropsychology.

There are opportunities for continued professional development and clinical supervision is well provided for within the paediatric clinical psychology team.

We regularly have trainees from the DClinPsy courses around the region, so there would be opportunities to supervise trainees.

You will also be involved in providing consultation, training and supervision as required to others within and outside of the multidisciplinary team.

The department has a commitment to clinical research. Strong support is available to participate in research or to develop your clinical research interests

Training & Qualifications

Essential

- Completed (or due to complete in 2024) postgraduate doctoral level DClinPsy in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS
- Current HCPC registration for Clinical Psychologist (or eligibility to qualify for registration in 2024)
- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS / HCPC

Desirable

- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
- Previous training in medical psychology
- Training in the supervision of other psychological professionals

Experience

Essential

- Experience of teaching, training and / or professional and clinical supervision






- Experience of working with people with medical / chronic physical health conditions and across a range of severity and presentations
- Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of conducting risk assessments

Desirable

- Experience of working in an acute hospital with children and young people with medical / chronic health conditions
- Experience of assessing and treating patients with endocrine conditions, diabetes or DSD
- Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care
- Experience of providing supervision to other clinical staff
- Experience conducting clinical research

- Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health
- Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings

- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including both quantitative and qualitative methods

- Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for people with long-term health conditions
- Knowledge of complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology

Planning & organisation skills

- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS / HCPC
- Ability to identify,





provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations
- Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice
- Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings

Experience and / or training in the supervision of other psychologists

Ability to move between a number of locations within the Region in a working day
