Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity to join the Medical Inpatient Physiotherapy team, City campus, NUH, working flexibly across a wide variety of clinical areas in the cancer and associated specialities division.

We have WTE available permanently, plus an additional one-year full time opportunity.

This role would be ideal for an existing band 6 looking to consolidate their knowledge and skills when working with patients who have a variety of complex, long-term medical conditions or an experienced band 5 with relevant inpatient mileage who may be considering a career in inpatient services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for their own inpatient caseload as well as supporting band 5 therapists,





support workers and students.

They will work within a senior structure that provides peer support and training.

This role would be ideal for a compassionate professional who has an interest in inpatient care and developing broad skills across specialties.

Main duties of the job

This role will provide a high standard of physiotherapy input to patients across a breadth of clinical areas, including oncology, haematology (CAR-T therapy), infectious diseases, renal and palliative care, with an expectation to work flexibly across specialties.

You must be able to assess and treat patients with a range of conditions, including acute respiratory needs, train and teach others.

You will be familiar with complex discharge planning, MDT working and patient advocacy.

You will contribute to the out of hours respiratory rota at City Campus, NUH. This includes late shifts (until 9pm), on-calls and weekend work.

Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

Assessing and treating patients as appropriate in relevant areas

Working as part of multidisciplinary teams.

Supervising more junior staff (Band 5, support workers and students)

Deputising for Band 7s as appropriate

Working flexibly - including late shifts, weekend and out of hours rota

Working alongside band 7s and seniors to develop the service in line with evidence based practice

Supporting student placements, providing formal and informal training

Providing a supportive and learning environment for team members; including undertaking annual appraisals and supporting health and wellbeing.

The Physiotherapy service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH.

We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff,





employing over 800 staff, working together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to.

Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists.

We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff.

There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

Job responsibilities

We are a large,





friendly team working across 17 medical wards throughout City Campus of NUH, offering a widely varied caseload.

We pride ourselves on being kind and compassionate, providing a supportive environment in which to develop across all four pillars of practice.

There has been recent restructuring to provide a second team lead to support these roles.

CAS at NUH is a fast-evolving division, with constant developments and learning opportunities. NUH is a regional centre for all CAS specialties, and is one of the first in the region to deliver CAR-T therapy.

This post will allow a physiotherapist with a keen interest in inpatient care to expand both their clinical skills and leadership of a busy and responsive service, with a focus on patient flow whilst ensuring excellent patient care is provided.

There are 2 permanent static band 6 roles available. Flexible working will be considered, minimum WTE required. Please contact the team in advance or can be discussed at interview.

There is an additional WTE - 12 month secondment role.

Core hours are worked Monday to Friday, 8 : 00 16 : 00 although flexible working will be considered as above.

Additional duties will include participation in on call and weekend working as well as a late shift (9pm finish) at City campus.

These are rostered at 1-2 out of hour duties per month, adjusted pro rata.

Essential

- BSc honour degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy
- Evidence of CPD relevant to area
- State registered / HCPC
- Evidence of post graduate training relevant to area

- First line management course
