Job summary
The Maternal Mental Health Service is multi-disciplinary specialist service within perinatal mental health services working across Birmingham and Solihull.
The service supports women and birthing people who experience moderate to severe mental health problems directly associated with their experience perinatal loss (infertility, miscarriage, still birth, neonatal death, ectopic pregnancy, medically advised termination).
We welcome applications from mental health practitioners (RMN, Social Workers, OT etc) who are keen to undertake an assessment, risk management and care co-ordination role, as part of a small, dynamic service.
Our current team consists of clinical psychologists, a specialist counsellor,
a specialist midwife, peer support workers and operational staff.
We are predominantly home based and provide in person appointments and home visits at a variety of sites across the city.

Main duties of the job
Applicants will need to have a genuine interest in working with women / birthing people and families with their reproductive journeys in the perinatal period.
You will have excellent communication and multi-agency liaison skills, as well as good knowledge of safeguarding.
You will be experienced at undertaking assessments, short term interventions, care coordination and management of risk within a mental health service.
You will be happy to work independently, using your skills and experience to support the care of women.
Our team is small and diverse, so you will need to be comfortable working closely with colleagues from a range of professional backgrounds and disciplines.
Experience of working in the Perinatal Mental Health field is desirable but not essential.

Candidates must have access to a vehicle for work purposes. This is a part time position (22 hours). Much of work is home based but we also work out of a range of mental health, primary care, maternity and community sites and home visits across the city.

Qualifications
Essential
Registered Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, or Occupational Therapist.
Desirable
ENB 812 or equivalent Mental Health Studies - Community, Degree / Diploma
Knowledge
Essential
- Understanding by the post holder of their responsibilities under the Mental Health Act 1983.
- Understanding by the post holder of their responsibilities under CPA, Clinical Governance, Risk Assessment and Child Protection Legislation
Desirable
- Understanding of the role and remint of the maternal mental health service
- Knowledge of relevant NICE guidance, including Antenatal and postnatal mental health : clinical management and service guidance (CG192)
Experience

- Post registration experience in adult mental health.
- Ability to provide skilled mental health assessment to adults
